How to Switch Agents When Your Property Sale Falters

When your property sale seems to be going nowhere, one option is to switch agents.
But it’s a big move that requires careful consideration. Here’s a guide to help you navigate switching.

Talk
Have a frank conversation with your agent and outline your frustrations. Ask them to identify what they think the problem is and how the situation can be turned around. If you’re unconvinced by your agent’s revised strategy, it’s time to move on.

Check your contract
If your contract includes a tie-in clause, you may have to wait until the specified timeframe has passed before switching. Otherwise, you’ll have to pay the agent commission – even if a different agent sells the property (so you’ll pay two lots of commission).

Starting again
Ask around for recommendations and read online reviews. Make sure your new agent is honest and experienced. You need an agent who is straight with you and will put in the hard graft to sell your home.
